Within the framework of the European Union’s technology programs, it is actively involved in industrial consortia seeking technical solutions to improve the competitiveness of European industry. At present, the organisation maintains over 59 research institutes with some 17,000 employees at locations throughout Germany.
The Fraunhofer–Institute of Optronics, System Technology and Image Exploitation (IOSB), with almost 300 researchers conducts research and development for innovative concepts and application solutions in information technology. It provides solutions for network-centric architectures, image-processing systems and secure communications, both in security and defence areas as well as in industrial production.
Main Role in the SALUS Project
The main contributions of IOSB in the project are in the field of enterprise and system architecture design. Fraunhofer will use its competences in order to design the enterprise architecture and the system architecture of the SALUS solution. IOSB is leading WP3, Enterprise Architecture analysis and specification and is working in WP5 “PPDR security and privacy” on the integration of the security and privacy extensions of the network architecture into the overall Enterprise Architecture, as well as in WP7 to validate the feasibility of the developed Enterprise Architecture and in WP8 to disseminate the results and new knowledge with regard to Enterprise Architecture Modelling.
